Have you guessed any of our Fall Season guests yet? Here’s a little hint at another: we bring you a gorgeous video of Annie Clark, widely known as St. Vincent, playing “What Me Worry?” with the help of pop violinist Andrew Bird. As your eyes close, and your brain wanders to dark, divine corners, think about other artists who have manipulated standard song-writing with controlled chaos. She’s been hanging around with one of those folks…

Speaking of Tom Waits, check out this awesome Waits cover of “Tango Till They’re Sore” by St. Vincent over on SPIN’s site. She also contributed to the NYPL’s centennial book, Know the Past, Find the Future, where both notable people and library staff were asked to highlight pieces of the library’s collection. The incredibly talented guitarist, singer and songwriter chose Claude Debussy’s autographed manuscript of “Les Papillions”.

She writes:
“There is such a tenderness and compassion in Debussy’s work. Such a delicate hand must be, in my estimation, the indicator of a deeply romantic soul. Getting to hold this inscribed score in my hand and pour over the minute details, from penmanship to fluttery, effervescent nuance of note, helped confirm this suspicion. It reminds me that the motivation behind so much music, from the revered masters to the pop singers, is often: get the one you love to love you back.”
